Today Marie and I went to the animal shelter – big mistake when it’s 110 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Our job for today was to make some shade for the hound pen – the section of the yard where the large dogs are kept. And, god, they are some jumpy dogs. Also, they thought my duct tape was a toy, they kept trying to steal it from my hands – I had to pretend to throw it and hide it behind my back, which bought me a few minutes while they hunted for it.

Somebody had already ghetto-rigged something horrible looking and ineffective, we had to re-arrange it into something that worked. It was still hideous, but it flapped majestically in the wind. Of course, the dogs completely ignored the shade and attempted to maul me. Also, one got out and there was a panic – a little middle-aged lady had to chase him down and bring him back while I stood there like an idiot, not helping. Marie has a habit of letting the animals go where they’re not supposed to be – it’s her fault! Very manly, blaming it on the girlfriend. Chivalry is dead.

I’m pretty sure that as soon as we left the dogs teamed up and formed a pyramid and tore that tarp to the ground. It’ll be a shame if they do, seeing as we spent two hours rigging it up. Also, sunburned.
